WE 09 - Klamath River

We survived our final trip on the wild and scenic Klamath River. We swam at Clear Creek, rafted (and conquered) the Klamath, including mighty Dragon's Tooth, hiked to Ukonom Falls (which is spectacular), camped at Curly Jack Campground in Happy Camp (Home of the Sasquatch...bigfoot to you "lay people"), and swam in the Upper Sacramento River. It was a great experience.

The experience was so much deeper though than just swimming, rafting, hiking. God met us up on the Klamath and continued to grow young men and women who will be able to rise from the ashes of their broken lives and families and pursue the life God has for them.

Thanks for praying for us on these trips. 48 youth, four trips, several decisions for Christ, stories of God's empowering work were heard at each trip. Check out our new pictures and videos on our Facebook site. Thanks again for being part of WE 09 group.

I am the mother of several children who has had the privilege of attending the Wilderness Experience trips for the last couple years. I first heard of the these wonderful trips through a man name Raymond who is a member of Orchard Church and one of my greatest friends. He gave me Jim's number and told me to give him a call. So, I did.

Jim listened intently as I told him about my boys and a little bit of my family's history. You see, I am a single mother of five and four of those five children are boys. For many years I cared for my children alone and trips to places like Yosemite National Forrest, whitewater rafting on the Klamath River or walking on the beautiful Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco would never have been possible. But, with God --ALL things are possible. The fact that my children were able to attend these trips, have so much fun, and hear about Jesus has been a real blessing.

God sometimes puts people into our lives to fill in the gaps. My children have lived through so much. I myself, am in recovery and have been for the past several years. The kids father has just got clean in the past year.
Before I found Jesus and the strength to live my life sober, my children endured plenty, and to be honest, I am often unable to give them very much now because there are so many of them.

Much of the pain brought on by my and their fathers addiction is still with them, but see, God has provided wonderful people in their lives. God has the power to heal the past and gives hope for the future. My boys rave on and on about the Wilderness Trips over the summer. I can never fully express my gratitude to Orchard Church, Pastor Jim and everyone who participated in helping make this possible for my boys, and all of the other kids that are also being touched during these trips.

Thank you!
